A Praying Mother

As we celebrate everything MOM this week, I thought I would drop a message of encouragement. Have you ever considered how many hours your mother has prayed for you? It really never crossed my mind until I became a mom.

Just to give a little of my family info, my parents were in the ministry and had 3 kids of which I’m the oldest. I have a brother who lives in Colorado and a sister whom I get to meet her in Heaven someday. All of us are redheads. So you can imagine what our house was like daily: I’m right, you’re wrong; he did this, she did that. Our house was like every other household except with two dominating redheads who were both always right. Thankfully we managed not to kill each other in our fights but I can’t say we didn’t try. I truly believe that if it were not for our praying mother, we would not be here today. When my brother served in Iraq, I watched her prayers in action! She spent many a sleepless night praying. She has been my model for how to pray. And she learned how to pray from her mother. My grandmother was responsible for my parents being in ministry because of her prayers. But that’s another story.  Praise be to God for praying mothers.

So when I became a mother, I immediately began praying for my kids. I prayed for them before they arrived. I prayed for specific details for my kids: hair color, eye color, height, who they would look like in the family, mannerisms, etc. They are exactly what I prayed for, EXACTLY!!

If you would put my kids in a room together, if you didn’t know them, you would not pick them out to be brothers. I asked God for this because I wanted them to be known for being who they are and not who they are related to. God said in His word that He will give you the desires of your heart in Psalm 37:4. And He gave me my three boys. James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”  Psalm 127:3 says, “Children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Praise God!

I want to encourage you today by saying that you are loved and I am praying for you! I am so very thankful for my mother and the legacy she has given me through her prayers.

Happy Mother’s Day!  I love you Mom!
