Know God More

Have you ever wanted to know God more? When you think about it, it sounds a little strange. How do we get to know someone we can't physically see or audibly hear? After all, God doesn't answer our text messages, send DM's or leave emoji icons on social media. Maybe you think God seems too big, too important or too busy to spend time with each person on the planet. But, what if God never intended for our relationship with him to feel like work or another commitment to stress us out?

When it comes to knowing God more, it's about developing a relationship where you and God can experience life together. I have been reminded of God's love through his creation - when I held my children for the first time after they were born - the pink and blue skies of a summer sunset or standing on the beach and looking out into the vast ocean waves. These are just a few examples of creation that I have experienced with God.

If there was ever a person in history who wanted to know God more, it was David. One of the many songs and poems we believe he wrote is found in Psalm 19. Which opens like this:

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.

Psalms 19:1‭-‬4 NLT

It's one of the most beautiful and poetic Psalms we have. But, David didn't have this experience with God writing in a devotional. He wasn't hidden in his room praying about it. He was outside experiencing creation. According to David, creation is one of the things that makes God intimately known to us.

The Apostle Paul, who wrote most of the New Testament, wrote this to the church in Rome:

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Romans 1:20 NLT

Paul is making the point that even people who have never heard of Jesus before still see evidence of God. How? When we take notice of the world around us. We can connect with our heavenly Father just by experiencing His creation. Knowing God can happen anytime and anywhere because evidence of Him is all around us. Simply put, creation points to the Creator.

This week's challenge:

1.) Look for God in nature and the people around you.

2.) When you see something in the world that He created or you're with someone you thank God for - stop and take in the moment.

3.) Take a picture and keep it as a reminder for you that creation points to the creator. If you are on social media, share the picture and gratitude on Instagram, Facebook, etc. with #knowGodmore.

Get in the habit of connecting creation to the Creator. When we realize that we are surrounded by things that point to Him and His love, we can experience life with God and know Him more.
