How Dreams Can Help in a Difficult Time

During this virus pandemic, experts are telling us people are having vivid dreams and are seeking help to understand their dreams. As I have taught on the subject of dreams for years from the biblical and scientific view, author of the book Dream Talk, and college course on The Ministry of Dreams, I wanted to give some insight to those of you who may want more understanding of your dreams. This is very brief teaching so you may also want to check out Lifepointe Table Talk podcasts on dreams:

Why do we dream?

First, realize that God put the dreaming process in all mankind regardless of age or gender—it is innate within you. Why? God loves you and wants to minister to you in the natural—and most dreams are natural in nature—and also in the spiritual. He will minister to you when you are awake and even in your sleep through your dreams. I encourage you to read Job 33:14-18. Basically it says:

God speaks to us when we are awake and if we do not perceive it, He will then speak to us in our sleep to instruct us and direct us.

What do experts tell us about the importance of Dreams?

Through extensive testing, dream experts have discovered that dreams help release frustrations in our lives as we seemingly work through our situations in our sleep without the interferences we have when awake. It’s important to note that 95% of our dreams are personal and deal with our current situation.

How do our dreams speak to us?

Most dreams come in symbolic pictures familiar to us or parable-type stories that catch our attention and help us to look inside. These symbols usually represent our emotions, fears, ideas, character traits, etc. Dreams are principle oriented so look for the principle of your dream. Example: Running in a dream? Ask: What could I be running from and not facing in life when awake?

Don’t ignore your dreams.

If you remember your dream, it’s important. Evaluate your dream in light of your current situation. Pray over your sleep and dreams. Ask for understanding. I believe you will discover that God is ministering to you, not only when you are awake, but even as you sleep through your dreams!
